Meet us at the NPCC Innovation and Digital Summit
We will be at the NPCC Innovation and Digital Summit at ACC Liverpool, 19-22 October 2026, on Stand G9.
Why we are going
A growing share of casework rests on something that was online: a post, a profile, a scam site, a message. That evidence is often kept as a screenshot, and a screenshot invites the question of whether it was edited or made with AI.
For many of these offences, that is not the question the court has to answer. Sharing an intimate image without consent can be an offence whether the image is real or synthetic. A central part of what has to be proved is that the material was published, where, and what it said; consent, intent and the other elements need their own evidence. We make the case in full in The law doesn’t ask if it’s fake.
Shorenet captures what the website actually sent, from the network rather than the screen. The traffic is witnessed by a relay the officer does not control and sealed so any later change shows, and the defence expert can check it on their own equipment.
What we will talk through
- How a capture is made. The officer browses as normal; there is no screenshot step.
- What the record establishes, and what it does not. We will spend as long on the limits as on the strengths, because that is what a defence expert will do.
- Verification. How an examiner checks a capture without going through us. You can try the verification demo in your browser now.
What we want from you
We are pre-deployment, and we will not point at customers or case studies we do not have. What we are looking for is a unit willing to host an evaluation: a capture of a service you actually deal with, verified by your own examiners on your own equipment, followed by a session in which you try to break the reasoning.
We also want to hear where web evidence is failing in your casework today, and what a standard for this kind of capture would need to say.
What we will not claim
Shorenet does not detect deepfakes, and it does not identify who was at the keyboard. Our relay is independent of the investigator, not of us, and it makes fabrication far harder than editing a file, not impossible. The full list is on How it works.
If you cannot make it to Liverpool, get in touch. The law enforcement case is set out on our page for police.
